Neuroscience and Optogenetics

Understanding the brain in its entity is the big question that torments neuroscientists and has originated grand initiatives. Two-photon photo-stimulation of neurons via light-sensitive actuators is a very exciting technique at the forefront of neuroscience. Peak intensity of the delivered optical pulses is key to achieving a reliable photo-stimulation.

Our ultrafast fiber lasers, Goji and Satsuma, are unique lasers that have sufficient power and energy to photoactivate tens to thousands of neurons at the same time. Recent research performed at Université Paris Descartes shows that our fiber lasers have the unique ability to precisely and reliably photo-activate fast and slow kinetics opsins alike. Our Mango optical parametric amplifier allows in addition to access any wavelength from 625 nm up to 2600 nm.
